Transportation
Rooms have been reserved for out of town umpires at the La Quinta Inn in Somerville, Massachusetts, a short distance from the Cambridge Boat Club.
- Hotel Shuttle—La Quinta runs a bus shuttle service to and from Logan Airport. When you arrive at the airport, you can call the hotel at 617-625-5300 or use the direct phone line at the information desk in each terminal to let the hotel front desk know you are waiting for the shuttle, and let them know the letter name of your terminal. The shuttle is white with large graphics that spell out "LA QUINTA INN." To take the hotel shuttle from the hotel to Logan, call the front desk and leave your name and which of the scheduled hourly departures you need to reserve. Logan is 6.4 miles from La Quinta, and Yahoo sets the normal trip duration at 17 minutes.
- Taxi—For those who may wish to travel by taxi, the La Quinta Inn is located at 23 Cummings St., Somerville, MA, near the Assembly Square Mall. Boston Taxi Fare Finder estimates the fare at approximately $29 including a 15% tip and $6 Logan Airport surcharge.
- At the end of the events on Sunday it may be possible to run one shuttle van directly to the airport. This will be limited to one trip and must be arranged on Saturday with Len Edgerly. Assistance will be available for organizing groups sharing taxi transport.
- Car Rental—Best bet is to take the La Quinta shuttle to the Hotel and rent with Enterprise 617-625-1766. This location is two blocks from the Hotel, and a representative will pick-up and drive you to the office. Enterprise in this location provides a weekend rate, usually $26.00 / day. The rate will be discounted, depending on how many HOCR people rent from this location. The auto may be left at the Hotel on Sunday, and Enterprise will pick it up on Monday AM. Be sure to mention the Head of the Charles Regatta.
- At the appointed time on Saturday and Sunday mornings, HOCR vans will be dispatched to the La Quinta Inn to transport the umpires to the Cambridge Boat Club, in advance of the first race. Those umpires returning to the La Quinta Inn will be transported there via van at the end of the day.
HOCR Shuttle Buses—Transport to and from the stations and as needed during events (Stations 1–9 and 14–15)
After obtaining their assignments and equipment umpires at distant stations (Stations 1–9 and 14–15) will be transported to their respective stations. The Shuttle stop at CBC is located straight out the main door. Stations 10–13 walk from CBC. The buses run approximately every 15 minutes as shown below. We also have HOCR Vans available for emergency service if the Shuttle buses are not sufficient. Umpires will be given a cell phone number to contact if for any reason emergency transport is needed during an event.
HOCR Shuttle Buses will be circulating along Storrow and Memorial drives during the events and are to be used to get to and from the stations.

For those going to Ron O'Connor's at 784 Memorial Drive on Saturday after the Umpire meeting, please try to carpool to and from this event. There will be special HOCR shuttle buses from CBC to Riverside Boat Club—a short walk from Ron's building. Also, the HOCR van dispatched by Len Edgerly may be able to deliver some of you from the lead Umpire meeting to Ron's event. There will be no transportation provided back to La Quinta; you will need to rely on car pooling and taxis.
Driving Directions from CBC to Ron O'Connor's:
- take Memorial Drive downriver to Powerhouse Stretch
- turn left at Pleasant St. light, just past a large white brick building (the old Polaroid HQ, where you're eating)
- take second left into parking area
- enter building from parking area
Also, make sure you look at the Harvard Square restaurant list above and make reservations well ahead of time if you think you'll be wanting to dine in the Harvard Square area Friday, Saturday, or Sunday nights. The HOCR weekend is a very high volume weekend for local restaurants. Transportation to La Quinta after your dinner in Harvard Square is your responsibility. The best place to catch a taxi back to the hotel (23 Cummings St., Somerville) is the line of cabs that forms along Mass. Ave across from the Out of Town News kiosk, near the Harvard Coop. To take public transportation back to La Quinta using the MBTA Trip Planner, enter "Harvard Square" in the Start field and "23 Cummings St., Somerville MA" in the End field. (This will entail an 11-minute walk from the last stop to the hotel.)
